Career Anxiety Group in the Washington Office

 This is a once-weekly, 60-minute group for adult individuals who:


  • Are currently employed OR are seeking a new job due to related anxiety issues
  • Have struggled with significant anxiety over specific career/work related issues


This group will focus on the 10 Steps Toward Managing your Stress:

  1. Identify Your Symptoms of Job Stress
  2. Identify the Sources of Your Job Stress
  3. Identify How You Respond to Your Specific Job Stressors
  4. Set Goals to Respond More Effectively to Your Job Stressors
  5. Motivate Yourself
  6. Change Your Thinking
  7. Deal with Your Boss
  8. When in Conflict, Negotiate
  9. Pace and Balance Yourself
  10. Know When to Quit


After the foundation material has been covered, participants will be allowed to choose which of the following topics they would like the group to discuss/focus on:

  • Sexual Harassment: How do I know it is happening & what can I do about it?
  • Promotions/raises/family leave: How do cope with anxiety when I have those conversations in my career?
  • I am afraid of/having a major conflict with someone at work: How do I cope with that fear; how & who do I approach at work to find out if the fear is justified? What steps can I take to getting the conflict resolved?
  • Fear 2.0: I worry a lot that I am going to do something wrong and get fired or demoted. What choices do I have to cope with that anxiety? Is there a way to better understand if my fears accurate/are truly a part of the way the company is run?
  • Getting unstuck: Help, I’ve tried everything that my therapist has suggested and I still feel so much career anxiety, what are some things I can do to get unstuck?
  • I have to Quit!: How to quit safely and start your new career/job search more effectively
  • Job Search: How do I cope with my anxiety when I am looking for a new job while I am still working at my present job? When I am unemployed? Is there a difference?
